Groovy

GROOVY was an interesting experiment published by Marvel, a hybrid cartoon magazine/comic book. It had single panel cartoons, and no comic book-style contents, but it was printed like a comic book, comic book-sized, with a 12 cent price. Grand Comics Database lists three issues of this title, all in 1968, but only gives contents information for this issue.

I think GROOVY was one of those neither-fish-nor-fowl creations; people looking for cartoon books wouldn't be looking on the comic book spinners, and comic book fans weren't looking for single panel cartoons.

  1. I can see why this didn't succeed, but I sure like it.

  2. It is interesting, but just wouldn't appeal to the average comic book fan of the time.
