International Book of Comics

THE INTERNATIONAL BOOK OF COMICS should probably be more properly named THE ANGLO-AMERICAN BOOK OF COMICS, since its focus is on the history of British and American comics (no bande dessinée or manga, for instance).

Denis Gifford is the author. Gifford, an artist and writer, authored several books on popular culture. Born in 1927, he died in 2000. These chapters are a short excerpt from the handsome, large-sized edition, published in 1984.
